Councilmember Paul Koretz Committees
As required by the City Charter and established by Resolution, the Council is organized into fifteen committees to facilitate adequate consideration of matters subject to its attention. All members are appointed by the President of the City Council. Each Council Member is the Chair of one committee and a member of two others. Special ad hoc committees may be established and function in accordance with the authority creating them.
Committees meet at a set time, or upon call of the Chair. Through reports and hearings, Committees obtain information on matters under consideration and make recommendations to the Council in the form of signed written reports which are summarized on an Agenda by the City Clerk for the information of individual Council Members, City departments, and the public.
Councilmember Koretz serves on the following committees:
Chair, Personnel, Audits & Animal Welfare (PAAW):
As Chair, Councilmember Koretz oversees policies and matters pertaining to the Employee Relations Board, the Personnel Department, and Animal Services including wages, hours, and working conditions in addition to regulation of animals. He also scrutinizes all financial and operational audits of City entities and departments conducted by the City Controller.
As the Vice-Chair, Councilmember Koretz works with the Transportation Department, and the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority on a number of policy matters including public transportation, traffic, parking enforcement, traffic signalization, and control.
Energy, Climate Change, Environmental Justice & River Committee, Member:
As a member of the Energy, Climate Change, Environment Justice & River Committee, the Councilmember has introduced legislation to help Los Angeles become more sustainable and resilient. The committee manages the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and LA Sanitation on various matters including fees, rates, tariffs, recycling, sanitation systems, energy, water supply, water conservation, and environmental impacts of proposed Council actions.
Public Works Committee, Member:
This committee has jurisdiction over the Board of Public Works as well as the Bureaus of Engineering, Street Lighting, Street Services, and Contract Administration (except the Wage Enforcement Division). The Committee also oversees the Innovation and Performance Commission, and most everything related to storm drains, streets and their construction, improvement, maintenance, and naming; sidewalks; street lighting; special assessments; street vending; design and construction of City-owned public facilities and all matters relating to the City's Capital Improvement Program, utility franchises (except for cable television), and grants with concurrent review by the appropriate policy committee.
